The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and UN-HABITAT are working together to help local communities rebuilding the areas, which were devastated by the December 2004 Tsunami and the March 2005 earthquake that hit Aceh and Nias. As the lead agency for human settlements within the United Nations system, UN-HABITAT in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in January 2005 designed the Aceh Nias Settlements Support Program (ANSSP). The programme supports affected families to rebuild theirhouses in six districts (Aceh Besar, Banda Aceh, Pidie, Simeulue, Nias and Nias Seletan) in Aceh and North Sumatra Provinces.
